Root canals treat disorders of the nerve or pulp caused by decay, an abscess, infection, or trauma to a tooth.
The nerve is carefully taken out. Then the canal of the tooth is cleaned out and permanently filled and sealed.
The tooth is no longer alive. That relieves pain and discomfort.
This procedure is important because it saves the tooth. It does not have to be taken out. Root canals can lead to complications in the future.
