Is There A Simple, Effective Solution For Your Malocclusion, Bad Bite?

A bad bite pattern is when your teeth contact each unevenly when your close your mouth and chew food. This is a common dental disorder.

Unfortunately, it is often neglected. Your bite pattern is extremely important to the long-term health of your teeth.

If surfaces of the teeth interfere with how the jaw moves, the teeth can be worked loose. The enamel can be worn away.

The muscles that move the jaw are very powerful. They can do major damage to your teeth when the biting surfaces don't fit together properly.

The problem is amplified if your teeth interfere with a correct bite pattern. The jaw muscles work to grind down the teeth that interfere with a correct bite.

This leads to even more severe wear. It may crack off a cusp or split the tooth. It may loosen the tooth or cause it to move out of alignment.

The excessive muscle activity often results in muscle pain. All of the jaw muscles can become sore. They even affect the muscle that cause tension headaches.

Some excessive muscle activity may be caused by emotional stress. Damage done by stress induced grinding and clenching is helped by balancing the biting surfaces.

The jaw muscles are powerful. They can create 900 pounds of compressive force. Imagine how much damage such force can do when you focused on a single tooth.

Working a fence post back and forth in its hole is a good example. The bone around the root breaks down. If you can use your fingers to move a tooth, it is only a matter of time before there will be a problem with that tooth.

Sometimes a bad bite causes the muscles to force a tooth sideways. This causes the bone around the root to build up and become stronger.

When this happens, the tooth actually bends in its socket. This creates a microscopic chipping away close to the gum line. This causes a deep groove in the tooth.

These deep grooves at the gum line are often mistaken for toothbrush abrasions. Scientific research shows the grooves are the result of bending of the tooth in its socket.

These grooves lead to sensitivity in those teeth. The opening into the tooth exposes nerves. This can be exquisitely sensitive.

Correction of the bite removes excessive lateral forces on the teeth. In most instances therapy either eliminates the sensitivity completely or reduces it.

You should be aware that not everyone agrees how to achieve a beneficial bite pattern. Flawed research has failed to properly relate the bad bite pattern to problems with the jaw joints.

Our trained dental specialists are very aware of the relationship between your bite pattern, tooth wear and pain and your jaw joint and muscles. Our dental therapies help both your teeth and your jaw muscles more comfortable by bringing your whole biting into harmony.
